Rigging

Take Off
It is possible to take off just above Marine Drive, the car park road, from near the path to the top. This access is not very visible and is about 200m  N of the Toilets.  The air is usually smooth, so it is ideal for pilots fresh from flying schools to gain confidence & experience in relative safety.

Top Landing
Large, currently field 2 or the field behind it.

Bottom landing
Beach that can be used at all states of the tide, but only to the outcrop of rock know as Mill Rock marks the most northerly point.

All bottom landing MUST be to the South of this rock outcrop

Hazards

If a search & rescue helicopter repeatedly flies close to the flying site, a rescue operation is being mounted and
all fliers must land immediately.
Strong thermals can come from the beach and the dunes.

Local Flying
Experienced PG pilots may find the dunes soarable in relative safety when it is too strong on the main hill.. In these conditions expect low level rotor behind top of the dunes.

XC Flying
Excellent potential. But read the Safety Warnings if crossing Dartmoor.

Only two local vehicles are allowed to be parked in the take-off area, and vehicles are no longer allowed to travel across the 3 fields to drop off gliders and return to the road. Drop your gear just inside the wooden gate. You may park in Marine Drive car park , which runs along the bottom of the hill above the beach.
